In internet marketing terms, optimization is the process of improving content’s visibility.
The term “optimization” comes up very frequently with Search Engine Optimization, or SEO. SEO tries to improve a site’s visibility among search engine results. Since most search engines have algorithms designed to prevent marketers from pushing their content to the top, the ideal search engine optimized content is content that is relevant to viewers and contains many of the search terms those viewers are most likely to use. This will allow that content to naturally achieve a high ranking in a search engine’s results.
Optimizing a website may entail reworking its content and coding to increase its relevance to its target audience. For example, a website advertising a plumbing company on Long Island may be optimized by including more keywords pertaining to the company’s services and location, and adding blog posts with answers to their target audience’s most frequently asked plumbing questions. This ensures that when someone searches for a Long Island plumber, the company’s site is likely to be one of the first links to appear and will therefore be more likely to be clicked on.
